Detailed explanation of bicycle tire valve types
Released on Mar. 22, 2024
Schrader valves are the most widely used and well-known type of valve. They have been used in most motor vehicles and bicycles since their invention in 1891 by August Schrader.
Schrader valves have a thick valve stem with a small valve core inserted into it.
Schrader valve cores have a small spring that keeps the valve closed.
When the spring of the valve is pressed, the valve opens and air can pass through.
Schrader valves are shorter, thicker, less susceptible to damage, and generally cheaper than Presta valves.
